I remember the exact moment in time, when I realized UP NORTH was home. I was 12, and our family, friends and relatives were at Shady Resort , a pine studded island resort in Lake of the Woods. I was walking alone on the paths that meandered throughout the island. And I just had this knowing . It didn't come across in words, it came across in a feeling of being home. It was embodied in my senses...it was the smell of the pine in the pure, crisp northern air. And the wood smoke coming from the log cabin chimney. It was the sound of the waves lapping gently on the shore, as I sat watching a playful otter in the afternoon sun. It was the call of the loons, and the sounds of all the critters in the woods. It was the sight of an eagle soaring free above the tree tops. It was eating fresh fish for shore lunch, caught just hours before and prepared by our Native American Indian guides with care and respect. It was a feeling... that all was right in the world. Where there was a sense of peace and joy, and life was simple and filled with magnificent treasures. Natures rhythms danced effortlessly, with everything and everyone willing to embrace the music and the magic.

Real Estate was the catalysis that would bring me home. In 1993 I followed my heart north, to open a satellite office in the Lutsen/Grand Marais area for Edina Realty. Having spent many years traveling to the end of the Gunflint Trail, and enamored with Lake Superior, it felt like a perfect fit. It was 5 years later that I realized, that I belonged at the end of the road, in Ely Mn. And it is with a deep sense of pride, I call Ely my Home.
